Union Songs

Capitalism's Progress

A poem by John Tomlinson ©2005 John Tomlinson

You screwed the single mothers
and raped the plain for grain
polluted mighty rivers
drenched towns in acid rain
denuded pristine forests
for woodchips' venal gain
devastated habitat
for suburbiaÅs domain

You manufactured conflict
long hours and little pay
armed guards and razor wire keep
the unemployed at bay
attacks upon the unions
leave workers with no say But together we can beat you
together weÅll hold sway
