Over The Ocean

A song by Kathleen McLennan(c)2002 Kathleen McLennan

Over the ocean, on a distant shore,
That's where my memories began.
All of my childhood was enchanted there,
Long before I became a man.

Over the ocean at the sound of war,
Torn from our families and friends;
Where the noise from the guns was a distant roar,
To lands where we'd build our lives again.

The sorrow is always in our minds
For loved ones we had to leave behind,
But still there's a sweetness in the songs we sing,
To strengthen the memories that bind.

Over the ocean, I am growing old.
See our children, how they've grown!
They have a new land, but my heart still recalls
My "over the ocean" home.
